Compaq LTE Lite 4/33C, 4/25C, /25C, /25E From Users Guide: - Processor/Memory/CMOS: 386SL or 486SL. No external cache memory. Model /25E and /25C has socket for 387SL or 387SX. 4MB RAM is standard, expandable to max 20MB with a special card inserted on the right side of the computer. The 386 and 486 models have different memory cards (16 or 32 bit). The CMOS/RealTime-clock battery should be replaced every 2 years. - Monitor: C-models have color screen. E-models have greyscale. Both internal screen and external monitor can be active at the same time. VGA/EGA/CGA-compatible. 40/80x25 characters in textmode. Both color and greyscale screen is of type Edgelit Active Matrix, H.freq = 31kHz, V.freq = 60/70Hz. In textmode the /25E, 4/25C and 4/33C has 3 different modes, selected with Fn+T. Default is selected in SETUP. - The flatscreen uses transistors at every pixel which can cause occasional small flashes. This is normal. Color: 8.4"=213mm diagonally, max 640x480 at max 256 colors from a 4096-color palette. Greyscale: 9.5"=241mm diagonally, 640x480 at max 16 shades of grey or 320x200 at 64 shades, 8 shades in textmode. With ONLY external display it is also possible to get 800x600 at 16 fixed colors or 640x480 at 256 colors from either a 6*3-bits palette (256000) or a 8*3bits palette (16M). Use CPQSETUP. At 8*3-bitars the pass-through-connector may not be useable (it's somewhere inside). The manual says that the CPQSETUP program should be used to install Windows drivers, or at least to create the required OEMSETUP.INF. ADAPT is used to adjust colors/greyscales, and change the cursor and mousepointer. The computer has a built-in screensaver that turns the screen black, and an idle-mode with reduced screen brightness and processor speed. Timeouts is set with SETUP or ADAPT in DOS, or PWRCON in DOS or Windows 3.1. - Diskette station: 1.44/720k. The LED light shows green for 1.44MB and orange for 720kB diskettes. - Harddisks: 209, 120 or 84 MB. The led is only green. Drive types: 209MB = Type16, 120MB = Type50, 84MB = Type27. - Power supply: 10-20 VDC (Standby 6.5-8.5V), 18-21W. - Battery: Rechargetime 1 hour with computer turned off, 1.5-2 hours if turned on. Usable time for NiMH-battery is 2.5 hours (in standby-mode 80 hours). A small built-in battery (60 seconds) makes it possible to replace the battery while in standby-mode. - Setup-program is available i 2 versions; one on the Diagnostics-diskette with lots of help-texts, and one version in ROM with less help. To go to ROM-Setup press F10 at startup while the cursor is standing in the upper right corner. At the Diagnostics-diskette are also the programs TEST och INSPECT. - How to use the Fn-button, and alternatives if you have external keyboard: Fn+F1/F2 - To get F11 and F12. Fn+F3 - Reverse video. Only in b/w modes. Ctrl+Alt+{}. Fn+F4 - Extern, internal or both monitors. Ctrl+Alt+<> Fn+F5 - Volume for the built-in speaker. Fn+F6 - QuickLock/QuickBlank, depending on setting in SETUP. Ctrl+Alt+L. Fn+F7 - Energy usage mode. Can also be set with PWRCON. Fn+F8 - Shows remaining battery power with 10 minutes exactness Fn+Standby - Hibernation, saves a memory-image-file and turns the computer off. Can be done automatically at a specific time or when the battery runs out. (SETUP) Fn+Ctrl - If a program requires you to use the right Ctrl-button. Ctrl+Alt+plus or minus. Adjust keyclick-volume. PWRCON sets the size and position for the popup-windows. They are only visible on the internal screen. - Password can be set for : Power-On, Setup (Not /25C), QuickLock(Blank) shuts off keyb+mouse and clears screen, Keyboard(Blank) only for keyb. Everyting is set in SETUP except Keyboard which is set with the program KP. KP-settings are only valid until power off. Power-on and setup password can be changed/removed when they are entered. To change password xxx to zyx type "xxx/zyx/zyx". To remove type "xxx/". The diskette drive can be shut off in SETUP, except on the /25C model. /25C-Model84 has a DriveLock functions that encrypts everything on the disk. - The computer can be set for Network-server-mode, when neither mouse nor keyboard can be used and the computer automatically restars after a power failure. - The trackball (the "mouse") can in SETUP be set as COM1 or COM2. If an external mouse is present on any COM-port at power-on, the internal trackball is disabled. ----- Tomas Andersson 1993-10-14
